Teachers

Parents

Therapists

This course is designed as an introduction to understanding and recognizing related causes for tantrums.  These explosive moments can be the result of or a combination of a few dynamics.  Course participants will learn how to asses issues that can result in tantrums.  Some considerations are the desire to have basic needs met, lack of communications, inability to express emotions, work avoidance, or an approach to tasks.  Parents and professionals will learn solutions for tantrums to minimize occurrences at school or home.  A review of how to assess the student’s neurological state of being prior to activities will be discuss.  Participants will recognize de-escalation and sensory techniques to lessen the length and incidents of the meltdowns.  Daily implementation of sensory self-regulation programs to recognize, identify and express emotions/feeling  appropriately with calming tools will be presented. Course participants will be introduced to student preference assessment, use of positive reinforcements, and task prompting levels.  Learn how to set consistent expectations for students, re-arrange the environment for success and use strategies that lead to task completion.  A review of positive behavior interventions and support will be presented.
