Executive Functioning
Apply strategies to support student's initiation, attention, and task completion by using executive functioning strategies to engage learners. Learn skills to implement a variety of positive behavior interventions, guiding tools, visuals, and token economies to motivate and engage learners.
Sensory Processing Skills
Our occupational therapists will guide your learning and understanding of sensory processing. We walk through the foundational understanding of the central nervous system and how sensory activities are designed to calm the sympathetic nervous system responses that results in screaming, tantrums, and running.
Behavior Interventions
Our behavior professional staff is comprised of board certified behavior analysts, registered behavior technicians, special education consultants, behavior specialists, and school administrators. We are available to assess and designed interventions to support teachers and professionals.
Social Emotional Learning
We provide assistance with identifying and implementing social emotional learning programs to support schools. Teachers benefit from helping students to understand, identify, and manage their emotions. Dr. Harriet Walker-Dumas, OTD, OTR/L, ASDCS, CMT, CNMT
Founder and CEO of Discovery Therapy Network
Dr. Dumas is the Founder and CEO of Discovery Therapy Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to Autism advancement and evidence-based therapeutic services. As a licensed occupational therapist with 29 years of clinical experience, she has an extensive background in pediatric care, including owning and operating multiple therapy facilities focused on maximizing functional outcomes for children and adolescents.
A specialist in school-based occupational therapy, Dr. Dumas is committed to supporting school administrators, teachers, and educational teams in meeting the needs of students with IEPs and 504 plans. Her clinical expertise centers on sensory processing, nervous system regulation, and emotional regulation strategies that enhance attention, focus, and participation in the classroom. She is known for her collaborative approach, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to address areas of need and leverage student strengths for successful learning.
Dr. Dumas is also the author of The Wonder Paper – Handwriting Development System, an innovative handwriting program designed for students of all abilities, including those with Autism and other special needs. In 1998, she patented and invented the “Push-Pipe: The UE Stroke Apparatus,” a therapeutic tool created to improve functional outcomes for adults with hemiplegia.
As a leader in the field, she has delivered numerous professional continuing education courses for educators and clinicians. Her teachings span a wide range of topics, including Autism understanding and treatment advancement, sensory processing, fine motor and handwriting development, neurodiversity, and the integration of massage techniques into therapeutic interventions.
Dr. Walker-Dumas earned both her Master’s degree and Occupational Therapy Doctorate from Mount Mary University. She is also a 1996 graduate of Tuskegee University with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy. She advanced her training through a two-year healthcare massage therapy program at New Life Institute (now Rising Star Institute) in Atlanta, becoming a certified massage therapist and neuromuscular therapist. She incorporates these techniques into occupational therapy practice to support muscle tone normalization and soft tissue mobility in both pediatric and adult populations.
Driven by a long-standing passion for helping children with Autism, Dr. Dumas utilizes a wide range of therapeutic methods to support optimal development and progress. Through TruSoaring Therapy d/b/a Dumas Therapy, she also provides contract therapy services within school systems to help students excel academically and functionally.
